Elkton Outdoors Grebe Review — Features & Specs
Measurements
Starting with this section, the Grebe is such an outstanding board to be honest. With a 12 feet in length, 36 inches in width and 6 inches in thickness. This board is definitely on the big iSUPs’ team.
The length aspect is what makes a fishing iSUP an outstanding one, because now with this board, you’ll get so much space where you can install all of your gear and cargo.
And to be real here, fishing doesn’t only need a long board for it to be a great experience. Balance is the number one factor that can affect the board’s performance and yours as well.
The Grebe is no joke a very stable iSUP with so much potential to support your body when taking on some big fish.
While doing that, water probably won’t find a way to get to you because you’re 6 inches higher. It’d be almost impossible to see this board submerged under water.
Quality
I wasn’t surprised to know that the Outdoors Grebe Fishing iSUP is built using heavy duty PVC material; because simply it’s the safest and toughest material any iSUPs’ maker can go for.
Inflating this board, the first thing you’d notice is how neatly and sharply its parts were glued together. The drop stitch technology impressively makes the iSUP look like one single piece that’s of course way lighter than any hard board.
The Grebe is as sharp and durable as many prestigious brands that’d cost you a lot more than this one; the end production is so high you can’t help but appreciate how it looks and feels.
The same thing can be said about all the accessories featuring the board; they all match the iSUP and they’re all very durable and highly functional.
Features
There is absolutely not even one single feature missing on this iSUP. Instead; there are added details that are specially featured to enhance your fishing experience and make it whole and perfect.
- Like usual, the traction pad is an iconic aspect for inflatable SUPs; it’s actually one thing that makes these board as good as they are. The Grebe is featured with a really nice textured EVA pad that covers more than 2 thirds of its back. It’s guaranteed to stop anything from slipping off the board, as it’s very soft for comfortable feet.
- There is also 2 storage areas on this board; one on the deck with 6 hardcore D-rings connected via a bungee cord, and another at the board’s end with 4 D-rings. Not only that; there are 6 extra D-rings that can be used for literally anything. With this whole system, a cooler, a tackle box or a life vest can all be easily secured to the board for a great and complete fishing experience.
- To transport the inflated and loaded board, you’ll find 3 carry handles; one of which is central, while the other two are at the board’s both ends. They’re rigid with a nice soft grip for a firm grab and smooth transportation.
- Now let’s speak fishing. The Elkton Outdoors Grebe is featured with 3 Scotty Mounting plates; two of them already have fishing rod holders attached to them while the third plate can be used to attach an action camera for example. Given the large size of this board, you’d have it fully loaded with all of your gear and you’d still find plenty of room to move comfortably.
- And of course, to make the board a versatile one that’s not only good for fishing, Elkton Outdoors featured it with a trio-fin navigation system and that added greatly to its tracking performance which leads me to say that the Elkton Outdoors Grebe can make a great touring iSUP.
Packaging
Elkton Outdoors is obviously serious about every aspect of their products that’s why you’ll be getting a great all-inclusive package along with this board so you don’t have to worry not even a bit about how and when to take your first ride. With no further due, this is what the Grebe’s package got:
- A 3-piece aluminum paddle.
- 2 fishing rod holders.
- A removable fin.
- A high pressure hand pump
- A safety leash
- And a great travel backpack where you can store/transport the whole thing.
Sometimes, I start to think that there are no more quality iSUPs that come in a satisfying complete package, but here is this one defying that.
Performance
The Elkton Outdoors Grebe Fishing iSUP was up to our expectations with its set of features, quality and performance. With a weight capacity up to 290 lbs, this fishing inflatable stand up paddle board did a great job keeping me completely balanced with all of my gear on board, as we weren’t surprised that it could work perfectly as a touring iSUP.
The navigation system allows endless possibilities that can be reached using one same board. The Grebe tracked very nicely in flat water, and though we didn’t get to try in rough water, I can personally assume that it’ll do just as great. This board can be taken to lakes, rivers and even to the beach if the weather allows it.
This board is mainly designed for riders with intermediate stand up paddling skill who can do both, paddle and fish at the same time. However, a beginner will eventually and easily find his/her way around it.
